Plants Vs. Zombies: Heroes is a surprise treat. At first glance, it"s an awful lot lượt thích Blizzard"s popular card gameHearthstone.

Spend a little time with it, & you see all the clever ways PopCap riffed on the formula.

The similarities are there, still, of course. You have sầu a deông chồng of cards. Several of these are dealt out in the beginning. Each costs a mix amount of points khổng lồ play. You start the first round with one point, the second with two, và so on & so forth. The goal is to take out the enemy"s Hero. All this is basically the exact same thing asHearthstone.

But then there are lots of little differences.

Games play out in five lanes. Three are on the ground, lawn, or what have sầu you. To the right of these is an aquatic lane; to the left is a rooftop lane. Some cards have sầu bonuses depending on where you place them, gaining buffs or special powers if they"re dropped in the water or placed up on the roof.

Cards can also be "teamed up" if they have sầu that ability, granting special bonuses, or allowing stronger cards to protect weaker cards in the baông chồng. Some of these weaker cards have no attaông chồng value, but grant healing or extra draw points, so they"re worth guarding.

You can play as either Plants or Zombies (though you"ll need lớn unlochồng Zombies) and each side has numerous unlockable heroes for you to lớn play, each with their deông chồng strengths and so forth. The really neat thing is that the two sides don"t play the same.

Zombies always start. Plants always go second. But Zombies have sầu special "trick" cards, which cost points just like regular cards, that they can play after Plants make their move sầu. This fundamentally changes the nature of how hands play out, and adds a nice asymmetry khổng lồ gameplay.

The game has tons of single player content, so you can play to lớn your heart"s nội dung solo against the machine. But you can also go toe-to-toe online.

Meanwhile, you earn gems & a secondary currency which can be used lớn purchase regular và premium thẻ packs. You earn quite a bit of these just by playing, which takes the sting out of the micro-transactions. This doesn"t feel like a cash grab, though likeHearthstone I can see people spending gobs of money buying gems or various available packs just lớn get the very best decks.

There"s a lot of depth khổng lồ the gameplay, but the fun ofPlants Vs. Zombies: Heroes goes even deeper. Much of what the game does well is in its presentation. The great jazzy music; the supernhân vật comic book animations when your hero uses their special power; all the sound effects & the crisp, cartoony graphics. It all adds up to make the overall experience really great. That you"re not bombarded with ads or constantly told to lớn buy gems makes it even more pleasant, especially for a di động game.

Indeed, I think the whole thing works so well, I hope that EA decides khổng lồ release it on PC, and even on consoles. The brand already has a presence outside of Smartphone and tablet, & I think this game would vì well in the same markets asHearthstone.

And really, I like this game a lot more than the originalPlants Vs. Zombies. It"s harder khổng lồ compare it toGarden Warfare since that"s a full-blown shooter and it"s lượt thích comparingGuacodiles toZapricots.

I can"t really give the game a "Buy" on my Buy/Hold/Sell scale, either---it"s free---but I bởi vì think it"s worth a tải về. This is a top-notch thẻ game, for single player and multiplayer fans alike.

I think you"ll dig it, but if you don"t, well, it cost you nothing. Just a little time.
